Why Digital Media and Learning?

Through my work with the NWP Technology Initiative as well as various national learning opportunities, I have had the honor of working with teachers K-16 who are exploring the uses of digital technologies to support writing, teaching, and learning. Through my work with them, I understand how these new technologies can support the learning goals that teachers have for their classrooms in dynamic ways, how expanded notions of literacy and learning can engage diverse learners, and how our understandings about the contexts and situations of learning can be expanded through this work.

Description of Current Work:

As a senior program associate for National Programs and Site Development, I direct the NWP Technology Initiative (http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/print/programs/ti), which supports writing project sites as they explore the wise uses of new technologies for literacy learning and professional development in schools. The Technology Initiative has fostered several learning opportunities for writing project sites and teachers, including locally based projects, research, and writing and dissemination opportunities. Wise uses of new technologies and explorations of literacy learning are also being supported at all 200 writing project sites through ongoing networking and sharing of practices facilitated by the NWP Technology Liaisons Special Focus Network (http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/print/programs/tln).
