Jonathan Fanton: New Grants in Digital Media and Learning
MacArthur’s President announces new grants in Digital Media and Learning.
We are pleased to announce three new grants in this second year of our program in Digital Media and Learning. The grants continue to support robust research on how young people are participating in digital media, consider the future of the public library and museums, and document the progress and ongoing challenges in building the emerging interdisciplinary field of digital media and learning.
As researchers at the University of Southern California and University of California at Berkeley near completion of a three-year ethnographic study on how young people participate in digital media, additional support has been provided to researcher Mimi Ito and to David Theo Goldberg of the University of California Irvine to establish an international research hub in digital media and learning.
In addition to the ongoing library work of the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology, the Foundation is also supporting Professor Anne Balsamo of the University of Southern California to look into the future of libraries and museums and their role in building a young person’s network of learning opportunities and environments. We also look forward to a new series of public reports on the challenges of field building in the 21st Century to be developed by Blueprint Research & Design.
Join us on Spotlight for posts on these projects over the next several weeks. We look forward to your thoughts and comments.
